It is hard to believe how William has grown in the last month. I think the most exciting thing is seeing him learn about the world around him. He can turn the light switch off now. (We're working on turning it on.) But the most impressive thing we've seen is how he can turn the pages in a book all by himself now, for the most part. We have to lift the page for him a little, but he'll just reach over and turn the page all on his own. He needs work on timing, but boy, I never get tired of seeing him turn the pages with his pudgy and dimpled hand. And sometimes he'll get frustrated because it's not turning, so it's funny to see him get upset about something seemingly trivial. But then we're all like that, aren't we? Sometimes it's the most trivial and mundane things that drive us berserk. But, it is truly and absolutely amazing to see how he is learning and taking things in. What a privilege it is to see how a little person learns about the world and grows.
He has also begun to reach out for us and it is the best feeling! It's hard sometimes because you have to resist in order to teach him that he'll be ok by himself... There are times when he has to learn that he can't be picked up whenever he wants... even though I just want to pick him up all the time, even when I don't have the strength. (He's starting to get heavy!) But what I love most is that sometimes he'll grab my neck with both hands and do a lip plant on my face. Bill and I give him kisses all the time, so he's used to them. So I'd like to think that he is trying to give me kisses back now. Of course, it's not so nice when he bites, but I'll take that, too. =) Love it!! What precious times these are!
William has also dropped his last nap. So now he is only taking a morning and afternoon nap. We also were able to figure out an optimal length of awake-time so that he can take an optimal nap that will last more than a half hour. About 3 hours of awake-time seems to be the magic number for now... usually.
Unfortunately, we have also begun to see his little sinful nature come out. =( For example, he is talking a lot more now. But sometimes he'll do a high-pitched scream to get our attention when he's not getting something he wants. Also, William will usually eat whatever we feed him. But lately (especially with the meats), he'll just clamp his lips shut and shake his head. He shook his head early on, but that was just to get away from the food. Now it's a bit different because it's almost as if he is shaking his head intentionally, letting us know that he is not going to eat the food. It's weird how we can see the difference. But he is more clearly asserting his will. Our baby is becoming a sinful little man in need of a Savior. =)
And no, our monkey is not crawling yet. =( Everyone seems to be asking us that. But he is constantly on the move... no exaggerations either! William LOVES to stand. He has very strong legs. And he can take wobbly steps and walk across the room while holding our hands. When he sits, he will put his hands on the floor and rock. And he's been getting himself onto the floor more gracefully now, but that's where it ends. =) He still usually will freak out when he gets onto his stomach. He will sometimes push off with his feet (when they're not crossed) =) and elevate himself with his arms, but he hasn't gotten onto his knees yet. Bill and I could see William foregoing the crawling stage and just starting to cruise. We'll see what happens...
God has been so kind in allowing us to steward William. We love every moment with him. He is such a gift and a joy. (But the real fun is only beginning with his little will beginning to assert itself.) Can't wait for more of that...
